Creating structured environments where analytics teams learn from each other rather than compete.

When analytics teams operate in silos, organizations lose opportunities for learning, innovation, and improved decision-making. I developed the Forecast Forum framework to address this challenge—creating a structured approach for bringing disparate analytics teams together to share methodologies transparently, learn from each other’s approaches, and build collaborative partnerships that enhance organizational forecasting capabilities.

This framework has been successfully endorsed and funded by senior leadership, demonstrating its value in creating unified analytics cultures where transparency and shared learning strengthen collective capabilities.

The Challenge

Organizations often face a common problem: multiple teams independently develop models to predict similar outcomes, each working with different data sources, methodologies, and assumptions. This siloed approach creates several issues:

  • Limited knowledge sharing across departments with related analytical challenges
  • Missed opportunities to learn from complementary approaches and diverse methodologies
  • Stakeholder confusion when different teams provide varying predictions
  • Duplicated efforts and missed synergies between teams tackling similar problems

3. Structured Autonomy: Teams maintain independence while gaining insight into complementary approaches. The forum informs but doesn’t mandate methodological convergence.

4. Actionable Documentation: Providing leadership with nuanced understanding of different models’ strengths and appropriate use cases prevents inadvertent creation of “winning” and “losing” approaches.

5. Sustained Engagement: One-time events provide limited value. The framework’s power comes from ongoing rhythm and continuous relationship-building between sessions.

Why This Matters

In data-driven organizations, the quality of analytical collaboration often matters as much as the quality of individual models. This framework addresses a fundamental challenge: how do we create cultures where analytical teams learn from each other rather than compete with each other?
